Streamcheck, the streaming industry's leading source of objective quality metrics, announced today that it has finished the first wave of its "edge Scanner" deployment. Streamcheck operates a network of measurement computers, called Scanners, that mimic the end-user experience for streaming media. Streamcheck uses this network to provide a variety of services for measuring and monitoring the delivery quality of streaming media.
Streamcheck's main network of Scanners is based in 12 cities throughout the US and Canada in data center facilities and has been in continuous use since June 2000. The new network of Scanners are connected via cable modems and DSL connections so that accurate measurements can be taken of streaming quality at the "last mile".
"Our edge Scanner network compliments the main network very nicely." said Jason Bigue, VP of Operations for Streamcheck. "Many customers have asked for more measurements of last mile performance and we're pleased to be the first in the industry to be able to provide this data."
The first stage of edge Scanner deployment places them in 6 US and 2 Canadian cities: New York, Austin, Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco, Stockton (CA), Vancouver and Toronto. According to Bigue, more cities will follow before the end of the year.
